The Tea Party is an example of a true grassroots movement in today's America. It is rare that a group can grow with this kind of passion and truly change the landscape of American politics. I first of all want to commend those standing up for what they believe in by attending these parties tomorrow.
That being said, I do have some criticisms of the Tea Party movement. For one, please, stop dressing up in rediculous outfits for these rallys. It really is hard to take a movement seriously when half of the people in the rally are dressed up as Paul Revere, or Lady Liberty. While yes, the imagry is meaningful, that doesn't mean you still dont look stupid.
Secondly, Obama is not a socialist. He may be a liberal, but liberals are not socialists. Nor is he a communist, an Arab, a racist, or a facist. He was born in the United States, not in Kenya. Calling him any of those things would be considered a rhetorical fallacy, simply because they are blatently false. It only makes you look bad if you call him those names, draw pictures of him with Hitler-esque mustaches, or fly communist flags around. This is NOT helping your case. It only makes you look like irrational, fearful people. The general public will see this as crazy. If you attack president Obama, attack him for his policy decisions, and tell people why you think they are wrong. Also, offer better alternatives, don't just call him out for doing the wrong thing and not offering another choice. Democracy in America is based on debate, not on name calling and partisianship.
So those of you making your voice heard on this tax day, I commend you, but I beg you, from one conservative to another, don't make a fool of yourself
